SMX // Node 2 - APN Configuration
This article is for configuring the APN on an SMX, paired with a Node 2. For other combinations, please see our other guides
Follow these instructions step-by-step to configure the APN settings of your Node 2 modem paired with an SMX device to ensure functionality on networks outside of the USA.
This article is available as a video guide by clicking here or at the bottom of this page.
Step 1 - Power up and connections
Before changing the configuration, make sure your device is powered, that your SIM card is correctly installed, and that your SIM card has an active data plan.
The Node 2 has two SIM card slots, allowing you to store more than one SIM card in the device. However, only one SIM card can be active at a time!
Step 2 - Find the correct APN setting
We recommend using apn.how to determine the correct APN to use with your provider.
Go to apn.how
Select the country of the network provider you are using
Select the network provider for your SIM card
Determine the correct APN settings to use.
Each cellular provider may have multiple APN settings depending on the use (data only, MMS,...).
Generally, you will need to use the standard APN setting for data use, not MMS, WAP or other configurations.
If in doubt, contact your network provider or visit their website - most providers list APN settings on their support websites.
Step 3 - Enter the APN using the Serv App
With your system powered on, and your APN setting written down, make sure the WiFi and AP icon are visible on your device.
You will need to use an iOS or Android device to perform the next steps.
Download the Teradek Serv app from the Play Store (Android) or App Store (iOS)
Once installed, open the Serv app.
If this is the first time opening the app, make sure to allow permissions for finding devices on the local networkGo to the WiFi settings on your device, and connect to your SMX. The WiFi name should be "Serv-Micro-00XXX"
Return to the Serv app and swipe down to refresh the device list

Tap on "Modem 0"
Make sure to tap anywhere on the "Modem 0" box, except for the "i" icon.Ensure the "Slot:" field is set to the same slot in which the SIM card was inserted. Each slot has its own APN setting.
Tap in the "APN" field an type in the APN from Step 2.
If applicable, enter the SIM card's PIN
If the APN information from Step 2 includes a Login (user name) and/or password, scroll down to the correct field and repeat steps 10 to enter those values as well. When all your values are correctly entered, tap "Apply" in the top right corner.
